 Changing "God Time" to God’s Time 

When yesterday’s obedience begins replacing today’s Voice. 

It's interesting that we can faithfully be doing the very thing God once asked of us while no longer listening to the voice of the One who first called us to do it. We love a cookie cutter - tell me what to do and how to do it - and then take off and run our race chasing what we know and what we heard. 

We create rhythms and habits fitting in the things the Lord has asked, we are obedient to do the things and hold fast when something or someone comes to take it away. This is beautiful and wonderful, a delight to the Lord. He delights in your faith. He delights in your obedience. He delights in your sacrifice, your humility, and your desire to honor Him and make Him known. What a beautiful sight to see one who loves the Lord; who has laid their life down to take upon His likeness. There is nothing more beautiful - this is Christ, the Father, Holy Spirit working in our midst, making Himself known to the world. This is Christ in you - the hope of glory. 

But what happens when He asks us to shift? When He asks us to leave behind what we've known? The obedience we've walked in. The sacrifices we've made. The joy of serving in the gifts He's given. The grace that has carried us. When we've finally begun tasting some of the fruit—seeing scattered seeds become living testimonies that only Christ could produce both in your own life and in the lives of others. What a beautiful place to be with Him. Yet suddenly we find ourselves asking, "Why, Lord? Why would You ask me to shift?"

How quickly we can become resistant to the very One who leads us when He asks us to change, surrender, or give away the very things He graciously entrusted to us to reveal His glory.

This shift is not abrupt or hasty. It's not a slap Jesus name on it, switch it up, change it up, shift..shift.. to make it look holy..new or seen as more spiritual. That kind of shift will leave you going around and around your mountain, never satisfied, never stable, continuing to search - not a shift that bears Christ formed in you or the beauty His name deserves. 

I'm speaking of the shift that is born in prayer, by hearing the Father's heart for you and for others. The shift that comes with trembling, insecurity, and a holy discomfort that lingers until the Lord graciously provides strength, direction, and peace.

The shift that is formed in you over time and is marinated with His purity of a clean heart and holy hands, motives hidden revealed and long nights of repentance shared in the desire to just be with Him and the surrender to just say yes to anything He asks. 

The shift that doesn’t leave you alone but continues to call out again and again while you continue to try to sit in the grace that once was; only finding yourself becoming less and less as His hand continues to gently pull you into Him. 

It's the shift of knowing who you were, who you are, what you’re doing, what you’ve always done to once again finding yourself back in Him…asking again “Who am I and what are you doing within? Am I still on the narrow path or have I widened my road to fit the things that I understand and know; the things I’m comfortable and safe in; the things that don't ruffle me or stretch me to know You more? Doing all the things you’ve shown along the way but possibly picked up some of my own ways of thinking - and even though they seem right in Christ - are they actually? Or are they just filling the broken holes that I don’t want to be real about and accountable to, allowing my thoughts to be far from you?”

My husband always says, we are owners of nothing but stewards of everything. It’s like two hands holding all the things the Lord has given you but also palms face up, willing and ready to release whatever it is He asks to give back or exchange for another thing He may put in your life or ask of you at any time. 

The purpose of Christ is our life is to know Him, be known by Him, and receive the very gift of grace in our lives that allows us to be like Him. Christ is not merely a means to accomplish our plans. He is our life. He is not simply leading us somewhere; He is Himself the destination .Without His very leading and gracious kind voice in our lives everyday, we are continually led astray, but how gracious He is as the Good Shepherd to never abandon or leave us - His hand and voice is continually before us…telling us “Come this way.” Don’t resist your Good Shepherd. You can trust His plans and heart for you is good and above all else - to lead you to Him…the Savior and Lover of your souls. 

In this season of my life the Lord has asked a simple thing of me - to change up my valued and sacred “God Time” for what is the valued and sacred “God Time” He has for me. What once was sacred and valued is no longer if that’s not what Christ is asking for or leading you in. Don’t get caught up in things you value and hold close to your heart that is a “God thing” if the Lord is calling you to do it a different way or….possibly not do it at all. Don't become so attached to the methods God once used that you miss the voice of the God who is speaking today. Yesterday's obedience is never meant to replace today's surrender. What was once sacred because He asked it of you is only still sacred if He is still asking it of you.
